Low Cost Auto Insurance Tips for AARP Members
The AARP® Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford offers low cost auto insurance designed for people 50 and over. The Hartford’s discount car insurance rewards your driving experience with great savings and benefits.
Find Additional Savings
You already qualify for discount car insurance just by being a member of AARP. But you may also qualify for various credits and discounts that could make your car insurance even more appealing. Here are some tips on how you could save.
Tip #1: Insure Multiple Cars
Do you have more than one car? Insure them both with the AARP Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford. Just by insuring multiple private passenger vehicles with The Hartford, you could reduce your premium.
Tip #2: Insure Both Your Home and Auto
If you bundle your home and auto insurance with the AARP® Auto and Home Insurance Program from The Hartford, you could save on both.
Tip #3: Be a Defensive Driver
If you’re the primary operator of the vehicle and have completed an approved defensive driver course, such as the AARP® Driver Safety Program, you're eligible for a discount on your auto insurance for the next three full years. Just mail a copy of your certificate to The Hartford, and we will apply the credit.
For local and online course information, call AARP at 1-866-664-5364 or visit www.aarpdriversafety.org.
(The Defensive Driver discount name may vary by state. For example, in some states, such as New York, the course is called the Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course discount. In other states it may be called the Accident Prevention or Motor Vehicle Improvement Course discount. In Kentucky, this credit applies for five years.)
Tip #4: Get Younger Drivers Trained
Sure, you've been driving for a long time…but that doesn't mean the same is true of everyone in your household. If you have a driver on your policy who is under 21, you can still get discount car insurance by having that driver successfully complete an approved driver training course.
(In Georgia this discount applies to drivers under 25 years old.)
Tip #5: Drive a Car with Air Bags
Air bags save lives, so consider driving vehicles that are air bag equipped. Just by doing so, you may be eligible for an extra discount on your car insurance.
Tip #6: Consider an Anti-Theft Device
Anti-theft devices can be either active or passive disabling devices that protect a car from theft and could save you money.
Tip #7: Get Good Grades
If each full-time student under the age of 25 who operates a vehicle insured through the AARP Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford qualifies as a good student, you can receive a credit on most coverages.
Availability of each of these credits or auto insurance discounts may vary by state or policy plan.
