Community Service
Proud of Our Hartford Heroes
We call them our Hartford Heroes in Community Service. Every day our employees give their time, talent and know-how to make our communities better places to live.
That's because employee volunteerism is part of the fabric of our company. To strengthen the cities and towns where we live and work, The Hartford offers paid time off for volunteering and a wide range of company-sponsored activities. Each year, our Hartford Heroes in Community Service donate more than 100,000 volunteer hours.
Employees tutor and mentor students at-risk, serve on nonprofit boards, teach financial literacy, deliver meals to the elderly, donate blood, run food and toy drives, fund-raise for social service agencies, help high school students apply to college, teach inner-city kids how to ice skate, build affordable housing and fight hunger in our communities.
We also believe in supporting the causes our employees are passionate about. Employees who volunteer are eligible for our Hartford Heroes Sweepstakes, held three times a year. Winners may direct a corporate grant to the charities of their choice.
The Hartford also encourages charitable giving through the company's annual workplace giving campaign. Each year, employees donate more than $2 million to the nonprofit organizations of their choice.
The Hartford Junior Fire Marshal® program was created in 1947 to teach children the basics of personal fire safety and keep families safe. Our signature red fire helmets have been worn by generations of children who have learned the basics of fire safety through our innovative educational program. In fact, we've deputized more than 110 million Junior Fire Marshals.
Parents, teachers, firefighters and community leaders continue to cite The Hartford's Junior Fire Marshal program as an important tool in keeping kids and families fire-safe.
