Abilities Program
Promoting Abilities, Not Limitations
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live rich, productive lives. That's why we promote focusing on abilities, not limitations. As one of the nation's leading providers of group disability insurance and workers compensation, The Hartford knows that people with an injury or illness are more likely to be under- or unemployed-even when they are ready and able to work.
Our commitment to helping people of all abilities achieve the highest quality of life is the cornerstone of our philanthropic activities. Through our sponsorships and educational programs, we strive to help people through life's challenges and achieve success in all the areas of their lives.
We are proud to have been honored with the 2009 Amazing Investor Award by U.S. Paralympics and the 2009 Disability Matters Award by Springboard Consulting LLC in partnership with Work Life Matters magazine and named to the Top 50 Employers List by CAREERS & disABLED magazine.
Going Beyond Insurance Products and Financial Guidance
The spirit of the disabled athlete is one that can never be broken. See how our partnership with U.S. Paralympics has changed the way we view and support our disabled claimants.
Winning Spirit for Cancer Recovery
The Winning Spirit programs help cancer survivors focus on life. The cancer initiatives we sponsor are dedicated to the optimism that people can make a difference.
Alzheimer's Disease and Driving
A diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or other dementia doesn't mean the afflicted individual immediately needs to stop driving; however, they and their caregivers must plan for such a time. The Hartford, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Connecticut Community Care, Inc., has developed a guide to Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia and Driving to help individuals and caregivers determine when it's time to stop driving.
We Need to Talk: Family Conversations with Older Drivers
Families who are worried about an aging relative's ability to drive safely often don't know what to say or do. To help families plan ahead and initiate productive and caring conversations with older adults about driving safety, The Hartford and the MIT AgeLab have developed a brochure and Web site.
