The Hartford's Actuarial Intern Summer Programs, in both the Life and Property & Casualty businesses, are considered among the best in the insurance industry because we believe in building actuarial skills while simultaneously sharpening communication and leadership skills. We hire approximately 25 interns to work over the summer at The Hartford's headquarters in Hartford, CT or in Southington, CT (Property & Casualty Interns) and at Hartford Life in Simsbury, CT (Life Interns). Take your career prospects and skills to the next level, develop your network of peers and mentors, and enjoy social activities in the flourishing greater Hartford area.

Training

Whether you are selected for our P&C or Life internship program, you will have the opportunity to really experience life as an actuary at The Hartford. The opportunities and training you will receive include:

  • Property & Casualty courses (for P&C interns)
  • Advanced Excel and Access training
  • Business etiquette training
  • Skillsoft on-line training
  • Department overviews
  • Executive Leadership Speaker Series
  • Field trips to call centers, trading floors, data centers, etc.
  • Luncheon Network - go to lunch with an actuary and ask him/her any questions about his/her career and working at The Hartford.

Free Study Materials

Because we want you to be successful on your exams, you will be given a study manual of your choice. You will also be able to check out other materials from our actuarial library to assist in your studies.

Mentors

You will be teamed with a member of our student program to help you get the most out of your internship. Mentors can help you adapt and understand our corporate culture and provide advice on a variety of topics.

Social Activities

Social functions are a great way to network with the actuarial community and other interns at The Hartford. Events include:

Housing

You will enjoy living in beautiful, fully furnished corporate housing with roommates. As part of the P&C or Life program, you will live in downtown Hartford across from a public park. You can work out and play pool. If you are assigned to one of our Hartford offices, you can even walk to work from this great location. Interns can take advantage of the many outdoor recreational activities along with the cultural opportunities and nightlife of the city of Hartford. All utilities, parking and Internet are included with housing.

Whether your mode of transportation is flying or driving, The Hartford will cover your airline ticket expense or reimburse you per mile for the most direct route to our location.

Compensation

We offer competitive compensation as well as a bonus for passing your May exam.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Summer Internship Programs, you must have a strong desire for a career as an actuary, excellent communication and leadership skills, and you must have passed a minimum of one exam.
