About Our Team
The Hartford is one of the few companies in the United States with in-house experts on aging. For more than 25 years, our gerontologists have advanced innovative business solutions for the 50+ market. In 1999, The Hartford became a founding sponsor of the MIT AgeLab. Since then, The Advance 50 Team has collaborated with MIT AgeLab to produce original research and public education on safety, mobility and independence.

Jodi Olshevski, M.S., Gerontology Assistant Vice President Jodi heads The Hartford Advance 50 Team, a nationally-recognized team of corporate gerontologists who deliver expert services across The Hartford Financial Services Group. Olshevski is a frequent lecturer on business and aging at professional conferences and on industry panels, and has held an adjunct faculty position at Pennsylvania State University, Lehigh Valley campus. An expert in caregiving and eldercare issues, she is co-author of the book Stress Reduction for Caregivers, published by Taylor & Francis.

Jody Brown, M.S., Gerontology Corporate Gerontologist Jody Brown has more than 20 years of experience in the field of aging and is focused on the development and delivery of gerontology staff education. She also manages The Hartford’s industry-leading service approach for newly widowed customers. Jody is an active volunteer with Eldernet, a local agency that provides a variety of free, practical services to older adults so they have access to health care and an improved quality of life.

Cindy Hellyar, M.A., Human Development/Gerontology Corporate Gerontologist Cindy Hellyar has been instrumental in the development of national public education programs that promote safety, mobility and independence for older adults. Most recently, she directed a multi-year qualitative research project with MIT AgeLab that examined older adults’ experiences with natural disasters and the disaster planning needs of caregivers of persons with memory disorders. The research formed the foundation of two consumer publications which Hellyar co-authored. Cindy serves on the Board of Directors of Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Central Connecticut.

Shelley Paradis, M.A., Human Development/Gerontology Corporate Gerontologist Shelley Paradis brings vast experience in technology, learning, and aging. She is responsible for producing media-rich, interactive online gerontology learning programs for The Hartford as well as managing the delivery of advanced level staff education on the mature market. A production related to Baby Boomers earned a Silver Mature Market Media Award in 2009.

Beth Tracton-Bishop, Ph.D., Sociology, Graduate Certificate in Gerontology Corporate Gerontologist As an expert in older driver safety Beth plays a vital role in research projects with the MIT AgeLab including co-leading the research project on comprehensive driving evaluations, which resulted in the public education guidebook Your Road Ahead: A Guide to Comprehensive Driving Evaluations. Beth is a frequent presenter at national academic conferences. Beth is also the blogger of the For a Lifetime blog, a lively discussion about what we can all do - at any age - to stay safe on the road and at home.
