Admissions Office, schedule an on-campus visit/interview,
or attend their open house to find out more specifics. You

What if my major is not related to

for The Alliance Program?
Absolutely, there are no restrictions. Students can choose
to major in any field of study as long as it is offered at
the baccalaureate level at the college of choice.

manner the earlier the better! Indicate which school(s)
you want to receive this information: Trinity, Uconn or
Howard University (if you are unsure as to which school
you want to attend, make sure you have your information
directed to all possible school choices). To avoid any complications
or delays, it is strongly recommended that you complete
and submit your paperwork by February 15, 2002.
Additionally: It is recommended for students to follow up
with FAFSA (whether you submit online or through the mail)
to make sure your submission has been received, is not being
held up (due to missing information/other), and to check
on the status. Do not assume anything regarding this
process.

for consideration into The Alliance Program.

How does the scholarship piece of
the Alliance Program work?
The Alliance scholarship is a 4-year scholarship, contingent
on meeting and maintaining all of the admission, academic
and financial need requirements of whichever college you choose
Howard, Trinity or Uconn. Funds come from both The
Hartford and the individual college. The amount of The Hartford's
contribution is stated in your Financial Aid Package, prepared
by the college, which you receive upon acceptance and commitment
to attend.
Is this a full or partial scholarship?
Based on your estimated family contribution, as determined
by The Federal Government, your family may or may not be required
to pay a specified amount of money for your education. Additionally,
your need will be reviewed annually as you file a
new financial aid form each year.
The scholarship normally covers direct expenses to attend
one of these three colleges: fees, tuition, room and board,
minus your estimated family contribution. Any additional questions
pertaining to what is covered, should be directed to the Financial
Aid Office at each school (contacts).

Will I have to give up my other acquired
scholarships?
That is a decision decided upon by the individual college
and/or donor(s).

Can I use the scholarship money for
my own personal use?
The scholarship is intended for tuition fees, room and board
and is directed to the college.
Can I transfer my scholarship from
one college to another?
Alliance scholarships cannot be transferred from one
school to another. While you can apply to one or all three
of these colleges, in most instances, you will only be offered
an Alliance Scholarship from one. In the event that you are
accepted and offered an Alliance Scholarship at more than
one of these colleges, you must then decide which school you
are interested in attending.
What are the other benefits of The
Alliance Program, aside from the scholarship piece?
In addition to your scholarship, The Hartford's Alliance program
also offers a summer employment,
life skills training and a
mentor.
The Alliance Program requires that you work at The Hartford
at least one summer however, you are eligible to work all
4 summers as long as you demonstrate satisfactory work
performance.

What is the salary for summer employment?
As an Alliance Program student, you will be offered a competitive
hourly rate.
