Livestock Insurance
That Protects
Your Livelihood
Since 1916, The Hartford has been protecting livestock owners and producers through our livestock insurance program. Our dedicated livestock department understands the unique needs and risks of the livestock industry.
Whether for work, breeding, show, or pleasure, horses are a substantial investment worth protecting. Our equine animal mortality policies provide agreed value term life insurance covering the hazards horses may encounter in general or as a part of their use. Other optional coverage, including major medical coverage, is also available.
Bucking bulls, higher-valued cattle or hogs, and police or service dogs are examples of animals we can insure with our animal mortality coverage. These animals have specific insurance requirements. Our animal mortality coverage offers the flexibility to provide broad coverage at an agreed value that represents the animal’s proper value based upon their special genetics or talents.
If you transport livestock, you know it involves a unique set of risks. With our many years of experience in the livestock transit business, The Hartford also understands these risks and covers them in our livestock transit policies. Beyond insurance coverage, our experience will help you handle the urgent needs of an overturned truck loaded with livestock. The Hartford is the preferred provider of livestock transit coverage among commercial livestock haulers.
Many of our customers also haul other cargo and we offer an additional coverage for those loads.
Weather happens. Blizzards, tornadoes, etc. are a natural part of cattle country. Bad weather can be an inconvenience to people, but it is a potential financial disaster to cattle feeding operations. For years, The Hartford has been a reliable provider of feedlot, pasture, and dairy cattle insurance that covers the loss of cattle caused by various weather and other perils. We know that all operations are different. With an assortment of coverage and valuation options, we can build coverage for your cattle that suits your operation.
Our livestock Auction Market and Packer coverage provides livestock insurance to the market’s customers while such livestock are in transit to the market and while the livestock are located on the market’s premises. Protect your business and give your customers more peace of mind by insuring these animals while in your care, custody, or control. Coverage for the legal liability associated with the sale or purchase of mortgaged or stolen livestock is also available.
The Hartford’s poultry coverage can apply to birds in a variety of poultry operations including egg-laying operations, meat bird producers, and hatcheries. A variety of optional coverage is available including loss of income and power interruption or mechanical breakdown. We also offer valuation options to suit your operation and bird type.
The Hartford’s hatchery coverage protects fertile hatching eggs and chicks or poults up to 120 hours old. Fertile hatching eggs are covered while on your hatchery premises. Chicks or poults are covered while on your hatchery premises or in transit in your vehicles. The covered destruction or death of eggs, chicks, or poults must result from a listed Covered Cause of Loss.
Your property insurer may cover your swine production facilities, but who is covering the hogs? The Hartford can. We understand the perils that may cause a hog loss. From fire, wind, and collapse coverage to power interruption or mechanical breakdown coverage, we can customize your policy to cover perils applicable to your operation.
Using an endorsement to The Hartford’s ocean cargo form, we can cover the loss of livestock while in international transit aboard a ship or airplane. We have also covered frozen embryos or semen in similar transit so our coverage flexibility is broad.
