Onboard navigation systems for cars Getting lost when you drive can be frustrating and a waste of time. It can also lead you to dangerous roads or unsafe areas. But there’s a new device that can help you avoid getting lost. It’s an onboard navigation system that works directly with Global Positioning System (GPS), which is linked to orbiting satellites. The onboard computer can locate your car through signals received from the GPS. You just press a display panel to enter your destination and the computer displays where you are on a monitor with a highlighted route. Touch a button and the screen shows you where the next turn is and how far away it is. Some systems even allow you to talk to an advisor by phone. Some car companies are making this a standard feature in new vehicles. Check with your auto dealers for more information.
