Fire Safety Begins with Education and Teachers
The Hartford is extremely appreciative of the efforts of the nation's educators and firefighters in helping communicate  important fire safety messages.  The Junior Fire Marshal program is being re-energized in 2007, and we sincerely hope you will continue to play an important role in our mission of keeping kids around the country fire-safe.

A recent survey found that more than two-thirds of firefighters felt that fire safety is not taught to today's youth as well as it could be¹.  Almost all of these same firefighters (97%) felt that fire safety should be taught in school, with two-thirds adding that home is an important classroom for fire safety as well. 

Another survey - this of educators and parents nationwide² - found only half felt that fire safety is adequately taught to today's children, and that 95% said doing so is vital.

This Web site and downloadable materials are designed to introduce you to The Hartford's Junior Fire Marshal® program, and some of the ways that you can use it to teach fire safety to the children in your classroom, your community and your home.
