Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

CPSC is an Independent Federal Regulatory Agency that works to save lives and keep families safe by reducing the risk of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products. CPSC offers free online information and publications on electrical safety, general home fire safety, holiday fire safety, home heating equipment, hazardous products, older consumers (including fire safety), clothing flammability standards, etc. Sign up to have CPSC's press releases, which include product recalls and other safety information, sent to you automatically by e-mail the same day they are issued. Go to www.cpsc.gov/about/subscribe.html. Look for CPSC's detailed home fire safety checklist in both English and Spanish (choose the "Fire Safety" topic in the Publications section).

National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM)

The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) represents the most senior fire official of each of the 50 United States and District of Columbia. NASFM's mission is to protect lives, property and the environment from fire, and its primary focus is on preventing fires from occurring in the first place. Look for consumer safety information in the “Issues” section. You can sign up to be notified via a-mail of news and opportunities related to consumer product fire safety, catastrophic fire protection, juvenile firesetting, college and university fire safety, and a variety of legislative, regulatory and public safety matters. United States Fire Administration (USFA)

As an entity of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the United States Fire Administration works to reduce life and economic losses due to fire and related emergencies, through leadership, advocacy, coordination and support. USFA works independently, in coordination with other Federal agencies, and in partnership with fire protection and emergency service communities to provide public education, training, technology and data initiatives. Home Safety Council

The Home Safety Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping prevent the nearly 21 million medical visits that occur on average each year from unintentional injuries in the home, including injuries from fire. The Residential Fire Safety Institute (RFSI) is a public interest group created in 1982 to promote fire-safe homes through built-in fire protection and fire safety education.
