New Underwriting Program
Helps Identify Undisclosed Operators
Program will help you and
your insureds ensure all ratable drivers are included
on auto policies, limiting your customers’ exposures.
Background
The Hartford’s Personal Lines Underwriting recently conducted a
pilot focused on identifying undisclosed operators. The pilot has delivered
significant benefits in assisting our agent partners and valued
policyholders remain up-to-date on their changing insurance needs. Nearly
25% of households identified in the pilot were found to have drivers who
would meet the definition of a ratable driver. After discussions with our
named insureds and agents, many of these recently licensed drivers were
added to the policy.
Based on these results, Personal Lines
Underwriting will initiate an ongoing monitoring program that will allow us
to identify recently licensed drivers within an insured household. This
program will rely on the use of information provided to us through vendor
risk programs using a compilation of public information provided by state
departments of motor vehicles and licensing bureaus.
The New Underwriting
Program
Partnering with Explore Risk Alert, The Hartford will receive
ongoing notification of recently licensed drivers residing in our
policyholders’ household.
Upon receipt of this information, our Renewal
Underwriting team will review the customer service file for prior
documentation explaining why the driver is not currently listed on the
policy.
If no explanation is found, the Renewal
Underwriter will contact the agent directly to develop the driver exposure
using our existing standards and procedures.
Once completed, we will clearly document the
insureds’ file and send them a letter (with a copy to the agent) confirming
the driver addition. The letter will be accompanied by a Notice of Adverse
Action (NOAA), which will identify Explore as the supplier of the driver
information.
Who will be included?
This countrywide effort will launch as an initial look-back of
our in force business. Once our initial look-back has been completed, we
will monitor renewals ongoing as part of our continuous renewal underwriting
programs.
Should you have questions or feedback regarding
this initiative, please do not hesitate to contact your Hartford Personal
Lines Underwriter.
