Liam E. McGee
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, The Hartford

Liam E. McGee is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., one of the world's largest insurance and wealth management companies for more than 200 years. 

Since joining The Hartford in September 2009, McGee has led a company-wide restructuring effort, significantly enhancing the company's capital strength, financial position and operational performance.  He has launched a customer-focused strategy designed to achieve sustainable, profitable growth and drive shareholder value.  Under McGee's leadership, the Hartford is building a comprehensive and innovative portfolio of solutions for its partners and customers. 

McGee has also taken an active leadership role in the Asylum Hill community where The Hartford is headquartered. In 2010, the company announced the Asylum Hill initiative, through which it is making a five-year investment in the local neighborhood. The funds are focused on efforts to revitalize the underserved area, including support for education and improvements in public safety.

Before joining The Hartford, McGee spent more than three decades as a business leader, most recently serving as president of the Consumer and Small Business Bank for Bank of America Corporation. Prior to joining Bank of America in 1990, he held several senior positions at Wells Fargo.

McGee is a member of the Business Roundtable and The Geneva Association, and serves on the board of Catalyst, a global organization that builds inclusive workplaces and opportunities for women in business. He also serves on the boards of the American Insurance Association, The Financial Services Roundtable, and the University of San Diego. He has acted as Chairman of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, and served two terms as a director of the Los Angeles branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

A native of County Donegal, Ireland, McGee grew up in Southern California and speaks Spanish fluently. He is a graduate of the University of San Diego; he earned an MBA from Pepperdine University and holds a JD from Loyola Law School.

Douglas G. Elliot
President, Commercial Markets, The Hartford

Douglas G. Elliot is president of Commercial Markets at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., one of the nation's largest insurance-based financial services companies. He assumed this role upon joining the company in April 2011. In this position, Elliot is responsible for the company’s Small Commercial, Group Benefits, Middle Market and Specialty Casualty and Specialty Financial businesses. He also oversees The Hartford’s Claims and Sales & Distribution organizations.

Before joining The Hartford, Elliot served as president and chief operating officer of HSB Group, Inc., commonly referred to as Hartford Steam Boiler and a subsidiary of Munich Re, and was also president of Specialty Insurance. Previously, Elliot was a senior advisor with Aspen Insurance Holdings, a global reinsurer and specialty line insurer. He began his career in the public accounting field before joining Travelers in 1987, where he advanced through a series of positions of increasing responsibility. In 2002, he became chief operating officer for Travelers Property-Casualty and in 2004 he was named chief executive officer of General Commercial and Personal Lines for St. Paul Travelers Companies, following the merger of those companies.

Elliot earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business insurance executive program. He currently serves on the boards of Hartford Hospital, the UConn Foundation and the American Insurance Association. In addition, he serves on the executive board and is past chairperson of the MetroHartford Alliance IFS Cluster and is a past board member of the MetroHartford Alliance, as well as past chairperson of the Central and Northeastern Connecticut United Way Campaign.

David N. Levenson
President, Wealth Management, The Hartford

As head of the division, he is responsible for the company’s Individual Annuity, Individual Life, Mutual Funds, Retirement Plans and Wealth Management Runoff businesses.

Previously, Levenson served as executive vice president of The Hartford’s Legacy Holdings business, managing the company’s in-force domestic variable annuity business as well as the international and institutional business segments.

From 2007 to 2009, Levenson served as president and CEO at Hartford Life Insurance K.K., the company’s Japanese subsidiary. He initially led product development and distribution in Japan, beginning in 2006.

Before serving in Japan, he was managing director at Hartford Investment Management Company (HIMCO), responsible for sales and marketing. Prior to joining HIMCO in 2005, he was head of Hartford Life's retail products group.

Levenson joined The Hartford in 1995 following a career at Fidelity Investments. He launched The Hartford’s retail mutual fund business in July 1996. In 1999 he added responsibilities for 401(k) sales management and, in 2000, assumed responsibility for the 401(k) business line management. In 2002, he was promoted to run the retail product management group. In this position, he was responsible for annuities, U.S. and Canadian mutual funds, 401(k) plans, 529 college savings plans and offshore products.

Levenson earned a bachelor’s degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia Business School and a doctorate in business administration from The School of International Corporate Strategy at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan. Levenson is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA.). He serves on the board of directors for the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), LL Global (LIMRA/LOMA parent organization), as well as the board of trustees for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America and The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts.
 
 

Andy Napoli
President, Consumer Markets, The Hartford

Andy Napoli is President of Consumer Markets at The Hartford, one of the nation's largest financial services and insurance companies.

In this position, he is responsible for leading The Hartford's auto and homeowners insurance program, which includes the company's AARP business. He also is responsible for the enterprise customer care centers, including the Enterprise Operations organization and Catalyst360°, a Hartford subsidiary.

Napoli has more than a decade of experience managing consumer insurance businesses and operations, including serving in a variety of product, pricing and claims roles at Progressive and Nationwide. He was most recently Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer with the CUNA Mutual Group, an insurance company focused on serving Credit Unions across the country.

While at CUNA Mutual, Napoli gained experience developing affinity markets. He initially led CUNA Mutual's consumer products division and was promoted to chief administrative officer. In this role, Napoli was responsible for claims, information technology and customer operations in support of CUNA Mutual's business.

Napoli, a West Point graduate, spent almost 15 years in the U.S. Army, including a combat tour during Desert Storm. He holds a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from the United States Military Academy and a master's degree in statistics from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Greg McGreevey
Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer of The Hartford and President of Hartford Investment Management Company

Greg McGreevey is President of Hartford Investment Management Company and Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. Additionally, he is the Chief Investment Officer for The Hartford's Insurance business.

Prior to joining Hartford Investment Management, McGreevey served as Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of ING Investment Management - Americas Region (IIMAR), including business head and CIO for ING's North American proprietary investments and CEO of ING Institutional Markets. In addition, he was a member of an IIMAR's management committee and held a variety of key senior leadership committees, including ING Management Council.

Before joining ING, McGreevey was President and CIO of Laughlin Asset Management and President and Chief Operating Officer of both Laughlin Educational Services and Laughlin Analytics, inc. in Portland, Oregon.

McGreevey holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Portland, an MBA from Portland State University, and is a CFA charterholder.

Christopher J. Swift
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, The Hartford

Christopher J. Swift is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. Swift joined the company on March 1, 2010, and is responsible for finance, treasury, capital, accounting and investor relations. Additionally, he has been appointed to lead the Strategic Initiatives Office, which is charged with aligning and integrating the company’s strategy, capital investment, financial investment and operating plans across the enterprise.

Swift began his career as an auditor in the Chicago office of KPMG focused on financial services. He rose through the ranks at the firm to achieve partner by age 32. He then became executive vice president of Conning Asset Management, a subsidiary of General American in 1997, where he was responsible for finance, sales, marketing and information technology. After MetLife acquired Conning in 1999, Swift returned to KPMG and was eventually appointed head of the Global Insurance Industry Practice for the firm. As leader of this segment, he worked with clients in both the life and property & casualty segments, globally and domestically. His responsibilities included matters ranging from strategic and regulatory to audit, risk, advisory and tax services.

In 2003, Swift joined the Houston-based American General Life Companies, a subsidiary of AIG, as CFO and head of annuity operations.

In 2005, Swift was appointed CFO of Global Life Insurance and Retirement Services of AIG based in New York. He was responsible for all financial aspects of this $60 billion revenue operation with locations in 90 countries. In 2009, Swift joined American Life Insurance Company (ALICO), an operating company of AIG, to begin its initial public offering process as vice chairman and CFO. His responsibilities included financial reporting, capital management, investments, strategy, risk management, treasury, product development and rating agency relationships, among others.

Swift received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Marquette University and earned a certified public accountant designation. He is a member of the International Insurance Society.
 

Lizabeth H. Zlatkus
Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, The Hartford

Lizabeth H. Zlatkus is executive vice president and chief risk officer of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., a role she assumed in March 2010. She is a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

Since joining The Hartford in 1983, Zlatkus has held many senior leadership positions, including her most recent role as chief financial officer.

She has been recognized for her professional achievements and currently serves as Chair of U.S. Regulatory Developments for the North American Chief Risk Officer Council. Zlatkus formerly served on the HP Financial Services Board of Advisors and the LOMA Board of Directors. In 1999, she participated as a member of The President’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities; Business Insurance magazine named her as one of the top 100 women executives in 2000 and 2006; the Hartford Business Journal named Zlatkus one of its “Eight Remarkable Women” in 2008; Profiles in Diversity Journal named Zlatkus to its Women Worth Watching list in 2008.

Zlatkus has also been recognized for her many community contributions. In 2009, the Connecticut Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation recognized Zlatkus as its Community Leader of the Year. She is currently a member of the Pennsylvania State University SMEAL Business School Board of Visitors and also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Connecticut Science Center.

Zlatkus graduated with distinction from Pennsylvania State University in 1981 and was selected as an Alumni Fellow in 2003. 

 

 

Alan J. Kreczko
Executive Vice President and General Counsel, The Hartford

Alan J. Kreczko is executive vice president and general counsel of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., a role he assumed in June 2007. In this capacity, Kreczko oversees the law department, government affairs, and compliance. Additionally Kreczko chairs the company’s Environment Committee.

Kreczko joined The Hartford in September 2003. Prior to joining The Hartford, he held various senior positions within the United States Government. Until 2002, he was the acting Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration, where he led the State Department’s response to humanitarian crises in conflict situations, including Afghanistan, Timor, Sudan and West Africa. Prior to that position, he had served as legal advisor to President Clinton’s National Security Council. He has also served as Deputy General Counsel to the Department of State and as legal advisor to the President of the United States’ personal representatives for Middle East negotiations.

He earned his J.D. from University of Michigan Law School and a B.A. from Boston College.

In 2009, Corporate Counsel named The Hartford’s law department winner of itsBest Legal Department recognition. The law department also earned recognition in 2010 and 2011 from Inside Counsel for its innovative practices.

Kreczko has authored several publications including an article on humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan. He serves on the board of directors for Connecticut Red Cross Blood Services and the Mark Twain House and Museum.

Eileen Whelley
Executive Vice President, Human Resources, The Hartford

Eileen Whelley joined The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. in December 2006 as executive vice president, global human resources and was named executive vice president for human resources in June 2007.

Prior to joining The Hartford, Whelley spent 17 years at General Electric where she held a number of human resources leadership roles. In 2002, she was named executive vice president of human resources for NBC, responsible for managing HR and talent negotiations. When NBC merged with Universal Whelley led the HR integration, continued to lead HR for the NBCU Television Group and manage NBCU’s diversity and employer-of-choice programs. She was named a company officer of GE, NBCU’s parent company, in December 2003.

Before joining NBCU, Whelley was the vice president of human resources excellence for GE Capital in Stamford, Conn., where she oversaw HR for eight GE Capital businesses, HR Six Sigma and HR talent development. Before that she served in a variety of HR leadership roles at GE’s corporate headquarters in Fairfield, Conn. and at GE Capital in both Stamford, Conn. and in Kansas City, Kansas.

Prior to GE, Whelley worked for Citicorp and Standard Oil of Ohio in a number of HR roles. She is a graduate of Potsdam College and has a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.

Currently Whelley is a member of the advisory board for Teach for America CT and a trustee of the Potsdam College Foundation Board.  She is a former member of the corporate council for The White House Project and served on the boards of the Emma Bowen Foundation and the 9/11 Fund.  She also was a member of the GE Women’s Network since its founding in 1997, served as co-leader from 2001 through 2003, and remained on its executive board through 2006.

Whelley lives in Connecticut with her husband, Don, and their two children.
 

Jonathan Bennett
Executive Vice President, Digital Commerce & Customer Analytics, The Hartford

Jonathan Bennett is Executive Vice President, Digital Commerce & Customer Analytics at The Hartford, a newly-created position he assumed in July 2010. He reports to the CEO and is a member of the Office of the Chairman. In this role, he directs all digital strategy and execution for the enterprise, and is accountable for developing customer insights that drive The Hartford's business direction and growth.

Most recently, Bennett was the Executive Vice President of Personal & Small Business Insurance for The Hartford.  He was responsible for growth and profit of the auto, home and small commercial business, as well Operations and Product Development for the property and casualty division. 

Bennett joined The Hartford in April 1999 as the Staff Assistant to the Chairman and CEO.  In March 2000, he was named Vice President of Corporate Development, and subsequently, he led the Property and Casualty eBusiness Ventures team.

In January 2002, Bennett joined the Personal Lines organization to lead the Product Management department.  And in April 2003, he was named Senior Vice President, Personal Lines Division, with overall responsibility for The Hartford's Auto and Homeowners business.

Bennett worked at CIGNA from 1994 to 1999, serving as Vice President and Product Manager in charge of the institutional fund strategy at CIGNA's Retirement Division.  He also held positions in Strategy and Marketing and as a Product Manager for corporate-owned life insurance.

Prior to CIGNA, Bennett worked at Arthur Andersen LLP as an auditor and consultant.

Bennett holds an M.S. in Accounting from the University of Hartford and a B.A. in Economics from Connecticut College. He is also a CPA.

Bennett serves on the boards of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Barney School of Business Board of Advisors.

Karen Tripp
Executive Vice President, Marketing and Communications, The Hartford

Karen Tripp joined The Hartford in September 2010 as executive vice president, Marketing and Communications. She reports to Liam E. McGee, chairman, president and CEO of The Hartford, and also serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

In her role, Tripp has oversight of brand management and advertising, media relations, philanthropy and executive and employee communications.

Tripp comes to The Hartford with a 20-year track record of building talented teams and aligning brands with strategy. Most recently, she served as vice president of Corporate Communications for L3 Communications. Prior to that, she was general manager of Global Communications for General Electric's Infrastructure business, a position she held from 2002 to 2007. She also served as vice president of Corporate Communications for Rockwell Collins, a position she held from 1997 to 2002.

Tripp holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota. She is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt as well as a licensed pilot and flight instructor. 

James Eckerle
Executive Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Enterprise Technology, The Hartford

James Eckerle is executive vice president of Strategic Initiatives and Enterprise Technology at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., a role he assumed in October 2010.  Eckerle is also a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

In his role, Eckerle leads an enterprise-wide initiative to simplify and transform The Hartford's core processes and operating mechanisms to improve efficiency and effectiveness. He also partners with the company's leadership team to guide the implementation of The Hartford's go-forward strategy and manage enterprise technology. 

Eckerle has more than 30 years of financial services industry experience, with a specific focus on change management and process improvement. He joins The Hartford from Bank of America where he most recently served as senior vice president of Global Transition, Quality and Change. Eckerle joined Bank of America in 1986 and held a number of leadership roles in Enterprise Initiative Delivery, Senior Change Management Technology and Operations.

Eckerle earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Six Sigma Champion.
