Chief Underwriting Officer, Property & Casualty
David Firstenberg is Chief Underwriting Officer for The Hartford's Property and Casualty businesses.
In this role, he partners with the Small Commercial, Middle Market, Specialty Commercial and Personal Lines segments to enable them to grow profitably through improved underwriting, product and risk management.
In addition, he leads the company's thought leadership on P&C risk appetite, position on insurance emerging risks, underwriting quality governance, and underwriting talent management. He also chairs the company's Underwriting Risk Committee and has direct accountability for the risk engineering function.
Firstenberg brings more than 20 years of senior executive experience to the CUO role. Most recently, he was President and CEO of Canal Insurance Company, a family-owned specialty company. Previously, he held divisional management and senior leadership roles at other national and regional insurers with responsibility for reinsurance, personal lines, small and mid-to-large commercial lines, surety, and specialty lines.
Firstenberg received his bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology from Haverford College.
