Executive Vice President, Group Benefits
Michael Concannon is executive vice president of The Hartford’s Group Benefits business. Group Benefits is a market leader in life and disability insurance and an expanding suite of voluntary products and services, providing businesses with the employee benefits solutions necessary to attract and retain top talent. The Hartford sets the standard for helping individuals prevail in the face of disability or personal crisis.
Since joining The Hartford in 1995, Concannon has held several leadership positions in Personal Lines, including senior vice president of The Hartford’s Personal Lines Division where he was the executive responsible for the business comprised of auto, homeowners, umbrella and specialty product distributed direct to consumers, including the industry-leading AARP program, and through independent agents. More recently, he served as executive vice president of sales & distribution for The Hartford’s Commercial and Consumer markets business responsible for enterprise-wide distribution strategy and execution through a nationwide network of independent agents and brokers.
As the head of Group Benefits, Concannon’s primary duties include developing a strategy and driving profitable growth for this business, which includes disability, life, and accidental death & dismemberment insurance as well as voluntary solutions and accident and health products.
Prior to joining The Hartford, Concannon served in a number of finance and underwriting management positions at Allstate Insurance Company, Dean Witter Reynolds, Bear Stearns, and E.F. Hutton & Co. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University and a master’s degree in business administration from Adelphi University. He is a member of the board of directors of The Connecticut Forum, LL Global and St. John’s University School of Risk Management. He is also the presiding chairman of the ACLI’s Group Insurance Executive Council.
