Chuck Aoki

Sport: Wheelchair Rugby

Chuck Aoki, a member of the USA Wheelchair Rugby Team, has been involved in wheelchair sports since childhood. Born with a rare genetic condition known as hereditary sensory autonomic neuropathy (HSAN), which affects his ability to feel his hands and feet, he began playing wheelchair basketball at age seven and later started playing wheelchair rugby in high school.

In 2009, Aoki was first named to the USA Wheelchair Rugby Team, and was a member of the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Team, winning a bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Chuck and the wheelchair rugby team returned to competition at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games where they brought home a Silver Medal for Team USA in the final match against Australia.
Chuck works closely with The Hartford, a Founding Partner of U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, helping to positively change public attitudes and perceptions about disability.
