Your auto policy with The AARP® Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford1 will be renewing soon. Thank you for your business! We look forward to continuing to serve your insurance needs.

Several weeks prior to your policy’s renewal date, you’ll receive new copies of your policy documents. Many policyholders wonder what these documents mean and what they should do when they receive them. These guidelines and answers to frequently asked questions should help.

What You’ll Receive

Your renewal packet includes important information about your auto policy, including:

  1. Declarations Page – A summary of the coverages and the insurance limits you have elected, along with full details of your policy.
  2. Additional Forms and Endorsements – Provisions that add to, remove, or alter the scope of your coverage. They depend on the coverages you’ve selected and your state’s insurance requirements.
  3. Insurance ID Cards – You will receive new copies of your auto ID cards each year by mail. Remember to replace your old cards with the new ones and keep them in your car at all times.
  4. Your Insurance Bill – It's easy to make a payment through our Online Customer Service Center. In some states (such as Maryland, Montana, Virginia), you'll receive your insurance bill separately.

What You Should Do

Review your policy documents as soon as you receive them and verify that all information is correct and the coverages are what you expect them to be. Also, confirm the discounts that were applied to your premium.

If you need to make changes to your policy, it’s easy to do so through our online Customer Service Center. You can change your address and phone number, add a new car or delete an existing one, update your coverage, get additional copies of your ID cards, and much more – all through your computer or mobile device. Frequently Asked Questions

You may have questions about your coverage and the forms that are included with your packet. Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the renewal documents. You can find more coverage-related answers in Understanding Your Auto Insurance.

My policy documents include supplemental applications for certain coverages. Do I need to complete these applications and send them back to you?

Some states (such as Florida and New Jersey) require us to include supplemental applications in the renewal package for the following coverages:

  • Uninsured Motorist
  • Personal Injury Protection
  • Bodily Injury Liability (for some states)
Complete each application and return them to us only if you want to change your existing coverage. If there are no changes, no action is required on your part. Just disregard the applications and your coverage will remain as-is.

An opt-out notice is included with my renewal package. What is this for, and do I need to complete the notice and send it back to you?

All renewal packages include a notice titled, “Opt-Out Notice for Applicants and Policyholders in the AARP® Auto & Home Insurance Program from The Hartford.1 This notice allows you to opt out from being contacted by other companies affiliated with AARP, including financial institutions and retailers other than AARP and The Hartford.

If you completed this form previously, you will see the Opt-Out Notice listed under the Please Note section of your declarations page. You do not need to complete the form again. If you have not completed this form previously and wish to opt out from sharing your participation information, complete the form and send it back to the address provided.

Please explain the disappearing collision deductible endorsement that is included with my policy.

With our disappearing deductible, the collision deductible on your car insurance policy will go down each year – all the way to $0 – as long as you and the drivers on your policy, maintain a clean driving record. This is one of the ways we reward good drivers. It is an optional endorsement and not available in all states.

If you’d like to know where your disappearing deductible currently stands, please contact The Hartford’s Customer Service Center for assistance:

Why do I have Limited Mexico Coverage on my policy? I don’t recall asking for this coverage.

The Limited Mexico Coverage endorsement is automatically provided to you at no additional charge. This coverage provides limited protection for accidents and losses while you are driving in Mexico. You must purchase liability coverage through a licensed Mexican insurance company in order for The Hartford’s limited coverage to apply.
