Overview/Policy Statement
In the context of The Hartford's commitment to community service, managers may allow employees to take time out of the workday to volunteer for community activities. Managers should grant permission only once they are certain that all business needs will be met.
The Hartford will grant eligible employees paid volunteer time (see below for hours allotted), subject to management approval, to participate in activities that benefit the community.
Rationale
The Hartford strives to be a responsible corporate citizen and encourages the same of our employees.
Eligibility/Scope
This policy applies to all active employees of The Hartford and its participating subsidiaries who are based at U.S. locations, who work at least 20 hours per week. Note: This policy does not apply to temporary employees of The Hartford.
Applying the Policy
- Volunteer activities that are paid under this policy must provide a direct benefit to the community.
- Organizations that are considered to be within the scope of this policy are schools and non-profit, charitable organizations that possess a 501(c) (3) designation.
- Organizations that typically fall out of this scope are religious, political, fraternal, or labor-related. Volunteer hours logged in association with an activity sponsored by a faith based organization, are eligible only if the activity serves the entire community.
- All eligible employees are provided 8 hours of paid volunteer time per calendar year.
- Employees who participate in volunteer activities through this policy must log their hours on the Volunteering & Giving site. The employee should provide a copy of event summary to his or her manager, as necessary.
