Overview/Policy Statement
In compliance with all federal, state and local anti-discrimination laws, The Hartford does not permit and will not tolerate discrimination in employment, advancement opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, ancestry or citizenship status, genetic information, pregnancy status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Complaints of discrimination are to be reported and investigated in accordance with the Reporting and Investigating Discrimination and Harassment Policy.
Managers and employees are responsible for adherence to company policy. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Applying the Policy
- Under the direction of the Law Department, complaints of employment discrimination by employees of The Hartford will be investigated as further detailed in the Reporting and Investigating Discrimination and Harassment Policy.
- As part of the Company's EEO policy, The Hartford ensures non-discrimination as called for by applicable laws and regulations. Additionally, The Hartford ensures that protected veterans and qualified disabled persons are considered for recruiting, hiring, training, and promotional opportunities. The Chief Executive Officer is committed to this policy. Individuals wishing to review the Company’s program for protected veterans and disabled persons during normal business hours may submit such request through the HR Compliance mailbox.
- As part of its commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive workplace environment, The Hartford will make good faith efforts to provide reasonable religious accommodations to employees whose sincerely held religious practices or beliefs conflict with a company policy, procedure, or other employment requirement, unless such an accommodation would create an undue hardship. Employees seeking to request a religious accommodation should contact Employee Relations and attach a completed religious accommodation form to their submission.
Scope
This policy applies to the following:
- All U.S.-based employees of The Hartford while engaging in work-related activities from a U.S. location. Non-U.S. locations shall apply the intent and provisions of this policy, unless local law requires otherwise.
- All aspects of employment, including but not limited to: hiring; selection; job assignment; compensation; discipline; opportunities for advancement (including promotions and transfers); access to benefits; religious accommodations; training and work-related social/recreational programs; and termination.
