Use of External Facilities and Services Policy

Overview/Policy Statement

The Hartford uses only facilities or services that offer barrier-free access to all individuals without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ancestry, veteran status, disability, citizenship, or any other status protected by law. Transacting any business, including maintaining memberships or affiliation, with organizations or institutions that adhere to policies or practices inconsistent with this policy is strictly prohibited.
 
Managers and employees are responsible for adherence to company policy. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
 

Rationale

Representatives of The Hartford who arrange for facilities or services where any employee is deprived of the full use of facilities or services or treated differently because of their legally protected status is contrary to The Hartford's Code of Business Ethics and Corporate Conduct.
 

Eligibility/Scope

This policy applies to all employees of The Hartford and its participating subsidiaries who are based in U.S. locations of The Hartford. Non-U.S. units shall also apply the intent and provision of this policy unless local applicable law requires otherwise.
 

Applying the Policy

  • Facilities and services may include, but are not limited to: restaurants, hotels, clubs, halls, meeting rooms, recreational facilities, caterers.
  • The use of company funds for the reimbursement of costs associated with lodging, meals, entertainment, recreation, and other activities in such external facilities or services that have barriers to access is strictly prohibited.
  • Although ultimate responsibility for complying with this policy resides with the most senior manager directly involved in the decision to procure or use such facilities or services, all employees having decision-making authority will also be held accountable for any violation of this policy.
