Early Career Leadership Development Program

Our Early Career Leadership Development Program is designed to give high performing recent grads a deep understanding of our business. Through this program, you’ll gain professional, leadership and functional skills in an area you choose. Here’s a snapshot of what our program has to offer:

We’re looking for talented tech and data gurus to join our Early Career Leadership Development Program in Technology. Here, you’ll build skills needed to deliver technology and data-driven solutions to enable business results. From customer-facing systems to cloud-based processing environments, we have a rich tech and data landscape to help you build and hone your skills.

As a program participant, you’ll:
 
  • Rotate in areas including application development, data/cyber security and compliance, data analysis and engineering, and software and environmental engineering.
  • Build technology solutions using the latest Agile, Scrum, and DevOps-based methodologies.

More Development Programs

If you’re looking to gain experience in your field of interest, then we’ve got a variety of options for you:
If you’re ready to launch your actuarial career then consider joining our Actuarial Students Program. Our program offers practical actuarial experience in our personal lines insurance, commercial lines business insurance, enterprise risk management or group benefits areas.
 
As a program participant, you’ll:
 
  • Receive rotational job opportunities, fulfilling projects and support from leaders every step of the way.
  • Participate in seminars, have access to study materials and be part of a supportive peer community.
  • Get 130 hours of study time during regular work hours for every exam sitting. We’ll even pay for your required licensing, training and other education requirements. 
  • Receive competitive compensation and salary increases upon successful completion of exams and job performance. 
  • Have the opportunity to supervise others to hone your leadership skills.
Students enrolled at Capital College in Hartford, Connecticut; Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona; or Seminole State College in Sanford, Florida are eligible to apply for The Hartford’s Claims Apprenticeship Program. This program is designed to help you earn your associate’s degree and credentials for a full-time job in our Claims department in just two years.

As a new risk analyst, you’ll:
 
  • Gain hands-on experience and career-accelerating skills working with experts in insurance risk, financial/market risk, or operational risk.

As a program participant, you’ll:
 
  • Use your sales knowledge to provide “just right” coverage options and on-the-spot-quotes to our customers.
  • Work with a supportive manager and team who will coach you as you develop your selling skills.
  • Get 12 weeks of paid training upon your first day of employment.
  • Receive preparation and sponsorship for your Property & Casualty insurance exam.

Internships

If you’re a college student still pursuing your studies but you’re ready to put your textbook knowledge to use – you’ve come to the right place. We offer a variety of summer internships for students looking to gain first-hand experience in their field of study.
 
We’re looking for high-performing students who are at a Junior level with strong communication, change agility, and teamwork skills. In many cases, we consider our interns for future entry-level and advanced roles within the company. And you may even benefit from summer housing opportunities, depending on your distance from our offices.
 
As an intern, you’ll:
 
  • Participate in a 10- to 11-week experience with formal and experiential learning, volunteering and networking.
  • Work on a team or individual Capstone project where you’ll recommend a solution to an industry problem.
  • Get regular coaching, mentoring and feedback.
  • Take advantage of networking opportunities with employees, leaders and other interns.

Early Immersion Program

Our Early Immersion Program offers an opportunity for select students who have demonstrated strong communication, change agility, and teamwork skills. Through this three-day program, you’ll be able to participate in a series of workshops, networking opportunities, and a mini case competition at our company. From there, many of our participants find themselves with early access to internship opportunities for the following summer.
 
 

Freshman Experience Program

If you are in your first year of college and looking for ways to navigate your future career, this program may be perfect for you. By participating in this program, you’ll gain exposure to the insurance industry, as well as hear from industry experts who can be instrumental in your college journey. They’ll share their expertise and advice so you can learn how to maximize your college journey to best position yourself in landing your dream job when you graduate.
