Combat Office Injuries With These Work-From-Home Tips
Whether at home or in the office, if you’re working at a desk all day, it’s a good idea to pay attention to the setup of your environment. Known as ergonomics, how you arrange and use your workstation plays an important part in keeping you safe from injury. It might sound silly, but over time, even a desk job can cause repeated stress to your body and result in chronic pain, musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) and injuries like:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome – a wrist injury resulting in pain, tingling and numbness
- Tendinitis – pain and swelling in the joints of shoulders, elbows and knees
- Rotator cuff injuries – shoulder injuries from improper posture
- Muscle strains – sore muscles from poor circulation
- Lower back injuries and pinched nerves - disc compression or sciatic pain
- Tech neck – the strained posture from working on a phone, laptop or desktop
Your home office space should be designed in a way that prevents discomfort, injury and any resulting disability. Reviewing guidelines and taking steps to make your desk and surroundings ergonomically friendly should be part of the job, at home or in the office.
