Questions and Answers About Benefits

Accidental injury and critical illness benefits work alongside your other benefits and cover things even the best medical plans don’t. After a covered injury or serious illness, you get a direct cash benefit payment to use how you see fit while you heal. For example, you can put it toward medical co-pays, groceries, childcare, rent or even a food delivery service.
The cost of accidental injury and critical illness benefits varies based on your employer, but they're typically an affordable way to better protect your finances. For example, your monthly cost for each benefit could be as low as the price of one specialty coffee.
If you’re enrolled in a plan through The Hartford, you’ll submit an online claim through our friendly member website. Once your claim is reviewed and approved, the cash benefit payment is sent directly to you – not a health care professional or facility.
Depending on your employer’s plans, you may be able to choose a family plan option during enrollment. Check your employer’s plan details before enrolling.
